Innovative approaches in the field of public procurement - experience and practice in the European context
Public procurement is a powerful tool that can accelerate the uptake of innovation in the public sector. At the same time, it can support economic growth by giving innovative companies the opportunity to get their first references. However, the wider use of innovation procurement procedures is hampered by a number of barriers, from the lack of definitions through an unclear legal framework to the insufficient capacity of contracting authorities. The PRONTO project responds to the needs of contracting authorities and focuses on capacity building; promoting cooperation and knowledge sharing between contracting authorities; promoting the use of public procurement as a mechanism to support sustainable innovation.
