In 2002 it was decided about setting up the ministry of informatics as the central organ of state administration responsible for enforcing ICT use in the field of public administration and support of this dynamic department of enterprise. The most important steps, which had to be taken, were dealing with change in legislation environment. Eight basic legal regulations were introduced or amended from 2003 until 2006, and changes opening possibility of new technologies use were done in over 130 other regulations. First contributions were seen already in 2004 as well as barriers of further development were suddenly more visible.
It is clear now, that mainly political will to take structural changes in state administration functioning, is essential as well as other activity of IT industry in order to create space for this department, which it deserves considering its influence on economic growth and employment.

Dana Bérová
Dana Berova was born in 1967. In 1990 she graduated from the Prague School of Economics in the field of automated control systems. In 1987-1989 she did interdisciplinary studies in the Department of Journalism of Charles University. Dana Berova formerly worked as a manager, a specialist in media and television companies, and consultant. She was an editor in Czechoslovak and Czech Television, in the period 1994-1997 economic director managing the property of Karel Schwarzenberg, from 2000 to 2002 programme director for the regional television station TV 3.
