The presentation deals with the computerization of health care (eHealth) in terms of problems and challenges which Slovak health care is facing today. It addresses the issue of why eHealth is needed, with the focus on potential benefits that eHealth can deliver as shown by examples from eHealth leaders across the EU and their successful projects. It highlights the key priorities of the eHealth Implementation Programme in its first stage – building the infrastructure, security and application domains such as electronic personal health records, electronic prescription & medication, national health portal and electronic bookings. The interoperability of our approach towards eHealth solutions within the epSOS project for an exchange of electronic health data is also brought into focus.
