National project Digital Library and Digital Archives
The paper introduces the national project Digital Library and Digital Archives implemented between 2012 and 2015 by the Slovak National Library and its partner Slovak National Archives. Apart from the basic facts about the project and its results it focuses on its enormous contribution in the area of making the digital objects produced during its implementation and afterwards available online, as well as perspectives and benefits of digitisation of printed cultural heritage materials in the national library for the future.

Ján Kováčik
Ján Kováčik graduated at the Faculty of Law of the Comenius university in Bratislava. He has worked for the Slovak National Library since 2004 (with a break between 2011 and 2012) as a copyright lawyer specialising in the area of of making printed cultural heritage available in the digital environment and as a project manager in the area of EU Structural Funds (national project Creating an information network of research, academic and special libraries including their modernisation) and EC framework programmes (projects connected with The European Library – TEL and Europeana). Currently, he is the chief project manager of the national project Digital Library and Digital Archives).
