Waltraut Kotschy
Waltraut Kotschy is Austrian expert in data protection. She is the Chairwoman of Austrian Data Protection Commission and she represent Austria in Working Group on Article 29 on data protection in the European Council.
She graduated in law at the University of Vienna and economics at the University of Economics in Vienna. In 1970s she works as assistant professor at the university's Public Law Institute and participated in different projects of Austrian Federal Chancellery aimed at using of IT in management of knowledge. In the late 1970s she started to specialised on data protection. In 1980 she became the leading member of Data Protection Commission. From 1981 to 1984 she was appointed a high-ranked state official in Data Protection Unit of Federal Chancellery. From 1984 to 1992 she worked together with her husband on missions abroad. From 1993 she is the Head of Data Protection Department in Federal Chancellery responsible for legal issues in IT area and public administration reform. She chairs the Austrian Data Protection Commission as well.
