Notifications and the route to citizen's e-participation in the era of mobility
The common feature of informing citizens through web or other new electronic media is that it is difficult to inform selectively about the key events that might be of interest for particular visitors. Citizens need to visit all websites (that of their city, association, theaters, sport clubs and some online newspapers) to see the headlines and learn what is important for them.
Mobile notifications are the most effective solution for this purpose nowadays. Recently, use of SMS by the Slovak Post was announced, some time ago the Ministry of Interior pioneered with notification for some of its services. Users are already familiar with notifications from mobile applications of social networks.
Some cities and towns have already for several years been using a service that sends short messages to citizens via SMS or email. The new generation of the service simplifies the use on the part of citizens and governments, and comes with the perspective for a more active involvement of citizens - a two-way communication between the government and citizens. Integration with social networks is envisaged, as well.
