Dr. Buhr, an economist and computer scientist, has been a member of the cabinet of Digital Agenda Commissioner and EU Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes since 2010. Among others, he advises her on the European Cloud Computing Strategy, the Connecting Europe Facility, ICT research policy, data protection and online privacy as well as ICT Standardisation and interoperability policies. Previously he dealt with antitrust and merger control investigations by the Commission, such as the Microsoft antitrust case and the Oracle/Sun Microsystems merger.

  • Digital Agenda for Europe - where do we stand?
    The talk will very briefly review what has been achieved since the Digital Agenda for Europe was first adopted in 2010. It will then situate the current mid-term review of the Agenda in the context of the larger discussions about the economic development of the EU and of the multi-annual financial planning that should be agreed by the 27 Member States towards the end of November: most importantly the current discussions about the size of the proposed Connecting Europe Facility and its digital part, as well as of Horizon 2020, the next EU framework programme for research and innovation. The talk will end on a brief preview of upcoming Digital Agenda proposals, e.g. on cyber-security.

    Carl-Christian Buhr will present and explain the Digital Agenda for Europe (available at http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/digital-agenda/index_en.htm) and try to make more tangible to the audience what this European Union policy, which has been endorsed by the Member States, what it will mean for them and other stakeholders.
