Erika Halašová

Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, University professor
She is a graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Comenius University in Bratislava, specializing in genetics and molecular biology. Her professional career is closely tied to the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Martin, where she serves as the Director of the Martin Biomedical Center. Her research focuses on studying the genetic and molecular biological aspects of oncological diseases. She specializes in identifying new biomarkers related to an increased risk of malignancy, as well as biomarkers for early diagnosis and disease progression prediction. She is the author and co-author of 204 scientific publications (h-index 18). Throughout her career, she has been the principal investigator of four projects funded by EU structural funds, two projects by the Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV), two by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, and two by the VEGA grant agency. Additionally, she has participated in 11 EU-funded structural projects as a co-investigator.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led the research team on the project "New Opportunities for Laboratory Diagnostics and Mass Screening of SARS-CoV-2" and was instrumental in establishing an innovative iLab for large-scale parallel screening of the population for various viral and bacterial diseases. Currently, she is actively involved in the European project "TEF-Health – Testing and Experimentation Facilities for Health AI and Robotics," which aims to safely implement artificial intelligence and robotics into medical practice.
