Jozef Vivoda

Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, Head of the Department of Numerical Predictive Models and Methods
Jozef Vivoda studied physics with a focus on meteorology and climatology at FMFI UK. After studying, he has been working at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) since 1996 and became part of the team that implemented the ALADIN numerical prediction model on Slovakia in 2004 and began operating it on a supercomputer. Since 2010, he has been working as the leader of the team that is currently developing the model within the international consortium ACCORD and ensuring the renewal of supercomputer technology at SHMÚ. At present, SHMÚ has procured a new supercomputer, which will bring a 40-fold increase in computing power compared to the existing situation. It is a society-wide investment, with the aim of improving the quality of weather forecasts and warnings and, in particular, the introduction of air quality forecasts and warnings.
