Martin Šuster
Martin Šuster is a member of the Council for Budget Responsibility in Slovakia, elected by the Parliament for a 7-year term 2022-2029. He was a director of the Research department at the National Bank of Slovakia for many years. He also chaired the Slovak Economic Association until 2020 and since 2017 till 2022 was a chairman of board of Transparency International Slovakia. He has lectured at several Slovak universities.
He received a doctorate in economics from the University of Maryland at College Park, USA, specializing in macroeconomics and labour markets. He joined the NBS as an advisor to the deputy governor, later becoming a head of the International Economics Department, and since 2007 he had been the director of the Research department. In 2007-2009 he chaired the working group for communication on the euro introduction in Slovakia, coordinating a changeover information campaign. His research interests include macroeconomics, convergence, monetary policy and research quality assessment.
