Mihaela Roxana Cimpan, PhD, Professor, is the head of the Biomaterials Cluster and of the NanoSafety & NanoMedicine group at the Department of Clinical Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Bergen (UiB). Professor Cimpan’s research activity encompasses nanosafety, nanotoxicity, nanomedicine, and biocompatibility testing of biomaterials used in medicine and dentistry with a special focus on the development of New Approach Methodologies for hazard and risk assessment of nanomaterials and advanced (bio)materials. The final aim is to contribute to the development of Safe(r) and Sustainable nano- and advanced (bio)materials. Prof. Cimpan has established Nanotoxicology & NanoSafety as a research field at UiB. Cimpan was a member of the National Reference group for Nano- and Advanced materials, a founding member of the SafeNano Norway network, a member of the Bergen Nanoscience Network “nanoBergen” and currently is a steering committee member in the “Research School for Training the Next generation of micro- and Nanotechnology researchers in Norway” (TNNN). Cimpan has participated as coordinator, WP leader, and PI in several projects funded by NANO2021, HORIZON2020, EU-FP7, EuroNanoMed and EEA.
