Roman Kalný

Storage Systems Consultant Czech Republic and Slovakia, Hitachi Data Systems
Roman Kalny is the Storage Systems Consultant for Hitachi Data Systems in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia. In this role Roman is responsible for all presales support for the complete hardware and software product portfolio for both new and existing partners in this region with the objective to increase their Hitachi business for Hitachi data storage products and solutions. Roman joined Hitachi Data Systems Central and Eastern Europe team in 2007.
 
Roman has more than 15 years IT experience gained in various sales, product management and consulting positions. He joined Digital Equipment in 1993 as the Account manager for Public and Government customers. In 1998 he was appointed StorageWorks Product Manager of Compaq Computer in the Czech Republic. After Compaq’s merger with Hewlett-Packard in 2002, he became HP StorageWorks Product Manager in the Enterprise Systems Group (ESG) of HP. Before joining Digital Equipment, Roman spent five years at the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague as the Assistant Professor.
 
Roman is also serving as a Vice Chair Czech-Slovak Committee of SNIA Europe and SNIA Europe Regional Committee Council Member (SNIA is Storage Networking Industry Association) since March 2005.                         
 
Roman Kalny graduated from Czech Technical University, Prague with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Technical Cybernetics. He did a one year DAAD study program at University Stuttgart in Germany in 1991, and gained a PhD from his alma mater, the Czech Technical University in 1993. 
  • Hitachi Data Systems Eco-friendly Storage Solutions for Data Centers
    Hitachi Data Systems introduce in this presentation cost effective steps to building More Eco-friendly Data Center. Hitachi Data Systems Green Storage Solutions include new technologies like Virtualization and Consolidation, Tiered storage solutions and De-duplication, Dynamic provisioning and Virtualized external storage systems. Deployment of these technologies brings not only significant saving of investments but also operational savings connected with power consumption, cooling, space reductions and others. Target of the Eco-friendly Data Center project is to reduce energy cost by 50 % over the next 5 years. We will demonstrate at the end of this presentation an example of the real Green Data Center which Hitachi opened in Yokohama, Japan in August, 2009. The newly opened green facility incorporates power-efficient data center technology designed to achieve a benchmarking rating of 1.6 PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) Green Grid rating - the lowest power usage index of any data center in its class while offering among the industry’s highest level of reliability, availability and data security.
