Rupert Ursin
Dr. Rupert Ursin is the co-founder of the quantum technology company qtlabs GmbH and the leader of the quantum communication group at the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. His research focuses primarily on the development of quantum communication infrastructures on earth, but also in space. His interests cover short-term engineering solutions for the quantum distribution of the encryption key (quantum cryptography) to speculative research into the decoherence of interconnected states in gravitational fields. He participated in the first non-laboratory experiments in the field of quantum teleportation over the Danube (distance 600 m), as well as quantum cryptography tests in the Canary Islands (hundreds of kilometers), which tested the possibilities of later quantum communication via satellites. He regularly publishes in prestigious scientific journals and his works have recorded more than 10,000 citations. Today, he is working intensively on building the quantum infrastructure of euroQCI.
