Dr. Safaa Karaki Aldwaik is currently the Director of the GIS and IT Department at Ramallah Municipality, and the City Chief of Data Officer. She holds two masters' degrees and a PhD in GIS, Remote Sensing and Sustainability Science from Clark University in Massachusetts, USA. Aldwaik has published several peer review journals, and won several awards, including the Special Achievement in GIS Award from ESRI. In addition to her academic achievements, Aldwaik has established the first GIS Municipal System in Palestine. She leads the Ramallah Smart City project that consists of six dimensions, with several strategic projects under each one like the e-Services project. Aldwaik is an expert in the fields of Digitalization, Geographic Information Science, Electronic Services, Spatial Statistics, and Disaster Risk Management. She is a member in the the UN Global Homelessness Data Initiative Advisory Committee, the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Smart Cities, and the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization.
