RNDr. Mikuláš Popper, MSc. (EE), PhD

Graduated from Comenius University (CU), Faculty of Sciences (RNDr. - majoring in theoretical cybernetics), Slovak University of Technologies, Faculty of Electrical Engineering (MSc. – majoring in control and regulatory engineering), Slovak Academy of Sciences (PhD – medical informatics and bionics). Post gradual study at Rutgers State University, New Brunswick, New Jersey (biomedical engineering and computer science).

From the most prominent positions of his professional carrier the following ought to be noted: system analyst, large scale program and system designer, concept developer, managing research and development units, domestic and international project manager, Slovakia's representative in several EU working groups – all related to the domain of medical informatics.

Main professional working results: mathematical modeling of physiologic systems, hospital and clinical information systems, healthcare and medical applications of artificial intelligence, symbolic knowledge representation, expert systems, electronic health records for diverse branches of medicine. The number of publications and research reports (domestic and international) around 130, including the book Expert Systems, Publishing House ALFA, Bratislava, 1988.

For several years actively participated in working activities, also in leading positions, in several professional and scientific bodies. Slovakia’s representative at International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA).

Main previous positions: Slovak Planning Commission - Dept. of Health Information; Faculty of Medicine, CU; Research Institute of Medical Bionics; Research Institute of Medical Informatics.

Long lasting teaching activities: Faculty of Electrical Engineering, STU; Slovak healthecare University; visiting professor for medical informatics at the National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, and at the National Yang Ming University, Taipei, Taiwan (academic year 2003-2004).

Current positions: Head of the Slovak eHealth Competence Center in frame of National Health Information Center, External lecturer at Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics, CU.
