The second day of the Autumn ITAPA 2024 conference will focus on green and energy topics.

In a rapidly changing world, we are experiencing a significant shift: from fossil to biological and circular economies, from analog to digital, from the government to business-led structures, and a mix of top-down and bottom-up approaches. These transformations require a new perspective on building resilient industries and economies. The critical question is: how can we keep our industries strong and accelerate innovation in this dynamic environment?

These are the opening words of a recent report written by Mario Draghi - former President of the European Central Bank and one of our greatest economic minds - after being tasked by the European Commission to share his personal vision for the future of European competitiveness. Europe really does need growth, because it is lagging behind other economies in terms of productivity growth, investment in innovation and the ability to develop and exploit new technologies. At the same time, Atomico's annual report "The State of European Technology" presents an optimistic case, highlighting Europe's enormous potential for future innovation and a number of elements that bode well for the future of its economies.  Experienced technology journalist and analyst of the European startup ecosystem Robin Wauters will share key insights from both reports and argue that their conclusions are not contradictory in most cases.
